Description

Migraine is a complex neurological disorder that causes moderate to severe headaches, usually on one side of the head. Migraines can also cause other symptoms, such as: nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound, numbness, and chills.

Migraines can last from 6 hours to 2 days. They can be debilitating and significantly impact daily life.

Some things that may increase your risk of getting migraines include:

  • Sex: Women are three times more likely to get migraines than men.
  • Age: Most people start getting migraines between the ages of 10 and 40.
  • Family history: If one parent has migraines, you have a 50% chance of getting them. If both parents have migraines, the risk increases to 75%.
  • Other medical conditions: Depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, sleep disorders, and epilepsy can increase your risk of getting migraines.

Is Yoga helpful in managing Migraine?

Yoga can be a complementary therapy for migraines by reducing stress and tension, which are common triggers. Some yoga poses and exercises that may help with migraines include:

  • Child’s pose: Calms the nervous system and reduces pain.
  • Cat-cow pose: Stretches the neck and spine, improves circulation, and calms the mind and body.
  • Neck and head rotations: Gently roll your neck clockwise and counterclockwise, or tilt your head back and forth.
  • Wrist rotations: Make fists with your palms facing down, then move your wrists up and down.
  • Elbow bends: Make fists with your palms facing forward, then bend your arms at the elbow until your fists meet your shoulders.
  • Shoulder rotations: Place your fists on your shoulders, then move your elbows toward each other and rotate your arms in opposite directions.
